For and with. Two simple words. Two dramatically different outcomes. Let me explain.
Petri Hawkins-Byrd, better known as Byrd, is best known for his sidekick role as bailiff for the entire series run–25 seasons–of Nielsen’s top-rated courtroom television program, Judge Judy.
Now, this is where it gets interesting. Judge Judy, in partnership with Amazon, announced a spinoff show called Judy Justice. But, this time there won’t be a role for Byrd. Nope, he was not invited. And this is where the two words for and with come into play.
See, Byrd worked FOR Judy and not WITH her. He was an employee, not a partner.
Let me be clear. I don’t blame Judge Judy one bit. It’s her show. It’s her image and likeness. The show wasn’t called Bailiff Byrd. It was called Judge Judy. I’m simply reminding you to never forget where you stand with any organization or person that you work for and not with.
Judge Judy is an entrepreneur. She thinks like one. More importantly, she acts like one.
Byrd is an employee. He only knows how to exchange time for dollars. Two different mindsets. Two different outcomes.
Judy has a new bailiff this time. He’s a younger version of Byrd. In fact, he was her security for the last four years.
Now, if I’m him, I would partner with the right people to launch a security firm. I would use this exposure to secure my family’s future as has Judge Judy. That way, when her run ends, and it will, his income doesn’t. Who knows, he might even partner WITH Amazon to bring on new shows.
The world opens up when you understand the difference between FOR and WITH.
Two words separate you from a thriving career or business and generational wealth. Yeah, just two simple words. Learn what they are and how to use them to your benefit.
